About

The Dead Sea

East of the Mediterranean Sea and nestled in the Jordan Rift Valley in southern Israel is the lowest elevation of earth on land.  At 430.5 metres below sea level, the Dead Sea is one of nature’s greatest wonders and not dead by any means.  It is the deepest hypersaline lake in the world; a landlocked body of water at least eight times saltier than the Ocean, that we call ‘dead’ for its inability to sustain fish or aquatic life. Although completely devoid of life (save for some algae and bacteria), the Dead Sea is world renown as a place of healing and rejuvenation since antiquity.  More than 2,000 years ago, King Herod the Great built his mighty palace and fortress atop Masada overlooking the Dead Sea where he frequented its waters as relief for his many illnesses. While King Herod the Great may be attributed with opening one of the world’s first health resorts on the shores of the Dead Sea, these waters truly hold ancient beauty secrets and drew in men and women of mythical proportions such as King Solomon, the Queen of Sheba and Cleopatra into its still and buoyant body.  The natural concentration of minerals that have accumulated in the Dead Sea over thousands of years such as magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron continue to entice millions of tourists as they pour in each year seeking healing and relaxation.

Health Benefits

The Dead Sea salt has a supremely rich mineral composition including magnesium, sodium, potassium, calcium and sulfates. Minerals support normal growth and development in the human body and must be replenished as they are lost throughout the day. They play an important role in ensuring proper bodily functions such as wound healing, oxygen transfer, and nerve and muscle health. Magnesium, sodium and potassium enhance the skin’s ability to retain moisture, making it healthy and silky smooth.  These minerals are known to treat, detoxify and cleanse our bodies and can absorbed by exposing the body to the waters and mud of the Dead Sea or by using Shemen Amour products made with these healing vitamins and minerals. While the Dead Sea is known to help relieve skin ailments such as acne, eczema and psoriasis, its benefits extend to its potassium and iron-rich mud—famous for its detoxifying and therapeutic effects. People travel from all over the world to bask in mud masks that work as a natural exfoliant, helping the skin heal and bringing back its natural PH balance. Our mud products and treatments bring the Dead Sea to your home for a replenishing and nourishing experience.

Why Shemen Amour?

Shemen Amour products are manufactured under the highest quality controls (ISO and CGMP certified)* and are paraben-free products. Parabens are widely used preservatives to prevent bacteria in cosmetics and personal care products and are essentially, endocrine disruptors—chemicals that can interfere with the body’s hormonal system.  Parabens are also commonly found in commercial cleaning products.

Shemen Amour products are also SLS free. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is an anionic detergent and surfactant found in many personal hygiene products. It is an inexpensive chemical that allows products to foam and is also used in industrial cleaning agents and industrial strength detergents.
